World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
