The speculation around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
