Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
